PDP Rejects Petition Against Adeleke's Election Victory

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially rejected a petition that challenges the victory of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, in the governorship election held on August 15. The PDP stated that the petition was filed without its approval and does not reflect its stance on the election outcome.

This situation has introduced uncertainty into the election petition proceedings at the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Osogbo. The petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, listed Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola, the PDP's candidate in the election, as the petitioner, while Adeleke, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the Accord Party were named as respondents.

Both Adedamola and the PDP have denied any knowledge of the petition. In a statement by National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed, the PDP described the petition as unauthorized and misleading, asserting that proper procedures were not followed in filing it.

The PDP plans to formally distance itself from the petition and warned against unauthorized use of its name.
