Adegoke Advocates for Withdrawal of Osun Election Petitions

Kunle Adegoke, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, articulated that withdrawing petitions challenging the 2026 Osun State governorship election would be beneficial for public peace and financial resources. Speaking on Eagle 102.5 FM on Thursday, Adegoke discussed the implications of the petitions against Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the August 15 election.

He warned that ongoing legal disputes could lead to political uncertainty, distract the government from its duties, and heighten hostility among rival political factions. Adegoke noted that the anxiety surrounding election tribunal outcomes could provoke violence, as citizens await decisions that could affect their lives.

He recalled past instances in Osun State where prolonged election litigation resulted in violence and property destruction. Adegoke stressed that the consequences of political violence often impact ordinary citizens the most, who suffer the greatest costs during such disputes.

He argued that rather than incurring taxpayer expenses for tribunal processes, it would be prudent to focus on governance and stability.
