Adeleke's Osun Governorship Win Unchallenged After Deadline

Governor Ademola Adeleke's victory in the Osun State governorship election held on August 15 has gone unchallenged, as the deadline for filing petitions expired without any opposition. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke, representing the Accord party, the winner with 511,067 votes, while his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), garnered 444,815 votes.

The statutory 21-day period for filing petitions lapsed on Saturday, and officials at the election petition tribunal confirmed that no petitions were submitted by any of the 14 political parties that contested the election. Victor Akande, Chairman of Osun Accord, praised the opposition for their acceptance of the election results, viewing it as a sign of political maturity.

Olugbenga Ajala, the governorship candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), also expressed satisfaction with the election's credibility, stating that his party would have contested if they believed there were significant irregularities.
