Police Allegedly Disrupt Election Materials in Osun

Tension was reported at a Registration Area Centre in Ife East Local Government Area (LGA) of Osun state due to allegations that police operatives disrupted the distribution of election materials ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday. The incident allegedly occurred at Ife East Ward 10, also known as Modakeke Ward 3, where officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were organizing the movement of election materials to polling units.

Reports indicated that armed police fired tear gas at voters and election personnel, causing concern over the potential impact on the electoral process. Despite these allegations, an INEC official at Polling Unit 10, Urban Day Grammar School, Modakeke, stated that voting commenced at 8:30 am and had proceeded without disruption.

This conflicting information highlights the need to distinguish between the reported disturbances at the RAC centre and the ongoing voting process at the polling unit, as the situation continues to develop.
