SDP Seeks Stay on Court Judgment for Osun Guber Candidate

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has approached the Court of Appeal in Abuja, seeking to stay the execution of a judgment from the Federal High Court that recognized Salawu-Adeniyi Mustapha Olaitan as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2026 Osun governorship election. This motion, filed under appeal number CA/ABJ/CV/1011/2026, requests that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) be restrained from implementing the judgment until the appeal is resolved.

The judgment, delivered on June 24, 2026, by Justice M.G. Umar, also recognized Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam and Uchechukwu Chukwuma as the party’s National Chairman and Acting National Secretary, respectively.

The SDP argues that the appeal raises significant issues that warrant the Court of Appeal's consideration and that executing the judgment could alter the appeal's subject matter. The party contends that preserving the current state of affairs is in the interest of justice until the appeal is determined.
