Osun Governorship Candidates Sign Peace Accord Ahead of Election

On August 15, candidates contesting the Osun State governorship election signed a peace accord at the Oasis Event Centre in Osogbo, facilitated by the Bishop Matthew Kukah-led National Peace Committee. Governor Ademola Adeleke attended the event, while his main opponents, including Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), represented by Kola Olabisi and running mate Kayode Adereti, and Azeez Adesiji representing the African Democratic Congress (ADC), were present.

General Abdulsalami Abubakar, chairman of the National Peace Committee, urged all political parties and candidates to prioritize peace over politics, emphasizing the need to reject violence and misinformation. After signing, Bishop Kukah reminded the candidates of their commitments and expressed confidence in their adherence to the accord throughout the election period.

He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure professionalism and accountability during the electoral process.
