Adeleke Campaign Petitions NHRC Over Human Rights Violations

The campaign team for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke submitted a petition to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Abuja on Monday, raising concerns about alleged human rights violations against his supporters as the election approaches. Spokesman Pelumi Olajengbesi called for the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, to assure the public of the Nigeria Police Force's neutrality and commitment to ensuring safety during the election.

The campaign expressed dissatisfaction with the IGP's reversal of the earlier transfer of the Osun State Commissioner of Police, alleging that Disu was pressured to reinstate the Commissioner. Olajengbesi highlighted concerns over the unlawful arrests of Osun residents, including the arrest of Accord Party member Popoola Alabama during a political campaign, who was transferred to Abuja under allegations of unlawful possession of firearms.

The campaign demanded the release of those unlawfully detained and insisted on proper legal proceedings for any suspected offenders.
