Yiaga Africa Warns of Integrity Risks in Osun Elections

Yiaga Africa published a pre-election analysis regarding the upcoming governorship elections in Osun, highlighting risks to electoral integrity due to financial inducements. Conducted between June 14 and 29, 2026, the report documented numerous instances of cash and gift distributions by political figures and their supporters, particularly in Irepodun, Ola-Oluwa, Olorunda, and Osogbo LGAs.

For example, the ITK Sisters distributed cash and food items in Ilobu/Erin, Irepodun LGA. A more sophisticated inducement method was noted in Ife South LGA, where residents received electronic transfers of N10,000 linked to a prior data collection exercise for voter identification.

Yiaga Africa expressed concerns over the limited voter education efforts for marginalized groups, with campaigns targeting women, youth, and Persons with Disabilities reported only in specific LGAs. The findings indicate a growing challenge to electoral integrity, as these inducements occur well before election day and are harder to detect.
