Yiaga Africa Calls for Security Ahead of Osun Election

Yiaga Africa, a non-governmental organization, has raised alarms regarding the increasing pre-election violence in Osun State ahead of the governorship election scheduled for August 15. During an interview on Arise Television, Executive Director Samson Itodo emphasized the seriousness of the situation, noting reports of political abductions and loss of lives.

He mentioned that civil society organizations had met with the Inspector-General of Police to discuss the tense and competitive nature of the upcoming election. Itodo called for a strong statement from President Bola Tinubu to security agencies, urging them to maintain a neutral stance and not interfere in the electoral process.

He warned that individuals attempting to misuse federal power to undermine the elections should face legal consequences. Itodo reassured that the people of Osun State are prepared to vote but are apprehensive about the prevailing security issues.
