Police Deny Allegations of Political Arrests in Osun

The Osun State Police Command has rejected allegations made by the Imole Campaign Council regarding a purported list of political figures designated for arrest ahead of the August 15 governorship election. The Imole Campaign Council, which supports the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke, claimed that the police compiled a list of 46 individuals, including Commissioner for Energy Ademola Adeyemo, for arrest.

Deputy Director-General Kolapo Alimi stated that many of those listed are from Ikire, the headquarters of Irewole Local Government Area. Alimi also mentioned that an Accord chieftain, Taofeek Akinyemi, was arrested after reporting an attack.

The council accused a member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps of collaborating with political opponents to facilitate these arrests. In response, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abiodun Ojelabi denied the existence of any arrest list or targeting of political party members, asserting that police operations focus on crime prevention.
