Union Warns Osun Monarchs Against Political Endorsements

The union has issued a warning to monarchs in Osun State, advising them against endorsing candidates in the forthcoming governorship election. This statement was made following claims that Jimoh Olanipekun, the Ataoja of Osogbo, allegedly encouraged Osogbo indigenes to vote for Ademola Adeleke.

The union emphasized that while the Ataoja has the right to express personal opinions, such endorsements are inappropriate as they could compromise the traditional role of monarchs, who should remain neutral in political matters. The union's president, Kamorudeen Makind, reiterated that the collective interest of the people should guide decisions, and that the 100 monarchs in Osun State, including prominent figures like the Oni of Ife, should avoid involvement in partisan politics to maintain the integrity of their positions.
