INEC Assures No Impact from NURTW Crises on Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has confirmed that the internal crises within the state chapter of the National Union Road Transport Workers (NURTW) will not negatively impact logistics for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026. Oluwatoyin Babalola, the Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner, made this statement during a town hall meeting in Osogbo organized by the Civil Society Network on Election Integrity.

Babalola highlighted the critical role of transportation in election logistics, stating that any failure in this area could jeopardize the election process. She noted that INEC is engaging directly with the national leadership of NURTW rather than any state-level factions, ensuring that they receive assurances of support for the movement of personnel and materials.

Additionally, traditional rulers in the region urged voters to prioritize peace and integrity over financial inducements during the election, emphasizing the need for a violence-free electoral process.
