Multiple Crashes Cause Gridlock on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

On Friday, multiple crashes occurred on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, leading to significant gridlock and stranding motorists. The accidents, which took place in the early hours, resulted in one death and two injuries.

The first crash happened at approximately 12:05 a.m. on the outbound lane towards Ibadan, involving five articulated trucks and a Toyota Sienna, attributed to excessive speed and loss of control. Seven adult males were involved, with one fatality and one injury.

The deceased's body was trapped under a heavily loaded truck, requiring heavy-duty recovery equipment for evacuation. Another crash occurred at about 3:15 a.m. on the inbound carriageway towards Lagos, involving a Mazda commercial bus due to brake failure, leaving the driver seriously injured.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, led by Lagos Sector Public Education Officer Elizabeth Jayeola and Lagos Sector Commander Kehinde Hamzat, advised motorists to use alternative routes to avoid delays until recovery operations were completed.
