Customs Operatives Allegedly Kill Driver in Osun State

On March 15, 2026, pandemonium erupted in Onibueja Ido, Osun State, when operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service allegedly shot and killed a motorist named Sundai. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. as the driver was heading towards Osogbo on the Osogbo-Iwo road.

Eyewitnesses reported that plainclothes security operatives opened fire on the vehicle, which was later found riddled with bullets. Abiodun Ojelabi, the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and stated that two customs officers, identified as Kolawol Suuti and Danjuma Samuel, were arrested in connection with the shooting.

The driver, who was in an ash-colored Toyota Corolla, was confirmed dead at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital. A Beretta pistol and live ammunition were recovered from the scene.

The Osun State Police Command, led by Commissioner Ibrahim Gotan, has ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
