Police Arrest Customs Operatives Over Driver's Shooting

The Osun State Police Command arrested two operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, identified as Kolawole Suuti and Danjuma Samuel, in connection with the fatal shooting of a driver along the Osogbo-Iwo road. The incident occurred on Sunday around the Onibueja area of Ido Osun.

According to reports, the shooting happened near a roadblock where the deceased driver was pursued by customs operatives in mufti. A video of the incident showed the victim's vehicle riddled with bullets, prompting an angry crowd to gather at the scene, demanding a thorough investigation.

Abiodun Ojelabi, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, confirmed the arrests and stated that the operatives were chasing a suspect in a Tokunbo foreign vehicle when the shooting occurred. The driver, who was in an ash-colored Toyota Corolla, was later confirmed dead at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital.

A Beretta pistol and live ammunition were recovered from the scene. The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
