Osun Police and Government Clash Over SSG's Detention

The Osun State Police Command and the Osun State Government have conflicting accounts regarding a police operation at the residence of Teslim Igbalaye, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG). The operation, conducted on July 29, was based on credible intelligence related to suspected criminal activities.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, stated that the operation was not politically motivated and was a response to intelligence requiring immediate action. During the operation, substantial sums of cash, voter details, and Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were recovered.

The police acknowledged that Igbalaye voluntarily reported to the Force Headquarters but maintained that this did not exempt him from lawful investigation. He has since been granted administrative bail pending further investigations.

The police also addressed claims regarding the recovered money, stating that conflicting accounts from suspects necessitated further scrutiny. They reaffirmed their commitment to neutrality and professionalism, urging political actors to refrain from undermining public confidence during ongoing investigations.
