CSO Urges Osun Residents to Safeguard Votes in Election

On the eve of the governorship election in Osun State, the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, led by Mr. Yinusa Ya’u, called on residents to fulfill their civic duty and protect their voting rights.

Ya’u stressed that every eligible voter has a constitutional right to vote without facing intimidation, harassment, or violence. He urged security agencies to ensure safe travel to polling units and back home, particularly for vulnerable groups such as women, persons with disabilities, and the elderly.

The Situation Room expressed deep concern over the tense political climate, citing reports of politically motivated violence, clashes, and intimidation. They noted the identification of 385 election flashpoints by the Independent National Electoral Commission and highlighted 13 Local Government Areas as high-risk areas for violence.

Ya’u appealed for vigilance from security agencies to address vote-buying proactively.
