CSOs Urge International Community on Osun Election Concerns

A coalition of civil society organizations (CSOs) and former leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for international community intervention regarding the upcoming Osun governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026. The coalition submitted petitions to the United States Embassy, British High Commission, European Union Delegation, and United Nations offices in Abuja on Friday.

Comrade Olayinka Dada and Igwe Ude-Umanta, representing the coalition, expressed concerns about alleged political violence, intimidation, and misuse of public institutions that could undermine the election's credibility. They emphasized the election's national significance due to its proximity to the 2027 general elections.

The coalition also mentioned the freezing of Osun State Government bank accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), calling it a potential political interference. They urged that all political actors should operate within constitutional frameworks to ensure a credible election, free from intimidation and violence.
