Security Heightened as Osun State Election Takes Place

Over 40,000 security personnel have been deployed across Osun State as elections take place. Military presence has been noted at strategic locations due to reported threats and violent incidents linked to the election.

Despite these challenges, residents are prepared to vote, showing resilience against intimidation. Sermons in Jumuat mosques emphasized the importance of peaceful elections.

Comrade Waheed Saka, a civil society leader, expressed optimism about voter turnout, urging security forces to ensure safety. Alhaji Kayode Afolabi, a retired permanent secretary, also expressed hope for a conducive voting atmosphere.

The election features fifteen political parties, primarily focusing on the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Accord Party, with Governor Ademola Adeleke running for re-election against APC's Bola Munirudeen Oyebamiji. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has distributed election materials, and various credible observers, including the European Union Election Observation team, are monitoring the process.

Allegations of violence have been exchanged between the APC and Accord Party.
