Yiaga Africa Praises Voter Vigilance in Osun Election

Yiaga Africa, an election observer group, praised the vigilance of voters in Osun State during the August 15 governorship election, stating it was the most effective deterrent against result manipulation. The group highlighted that citizens remained at polling units to monitor the sorting and counting of votes, ensuring the integrity of the process.

In its Process and Results Verification for Transparency (PRVT) statement released on Sunday in Osogbo, Yiaga Africa reported that its statistical estimates closely matched the official results from the Independent National Electoral Commission, confirming that the figures declared reflected the votes counted. Dr.

Asmau Maikudi, Chairperson of the Osun Election Observation Mission, noted that 300 observers were deployed across 30 local government areas, with findings based on 289 sampled polling units. The election saw a voter turnout of 43%, despite challenges such as politically linked violence and attacks on PVC collection centres.

Yiaga Africa also reported improvements in election logistics and the effective use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System in 80% of polling units.
