INEC Assures Osun Election Will Proceed Despite PVC Attack

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that an attack on its Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection centre at Oyinlola DC School, Ward 2, Okuku, Osun State, will not disrupt the upcoming governorship election. Mr.

Dayo Oketola, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, confirmed that the attack occurred on Sunday, where suspected hoodlums assaulted staff and stole electoral materials, including Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices and PVCs. Oketola indicated that the incident has been reported to the police, who have initiated an investigation.

He expressed confidence in the police's ability to apprehend the suspects and recover the stolen items. Despite the attack, Oketola assured that INEC's preparations for the election remain on schedule, with 4,427 BVAS devices configured, including 664 backups.

INEC has also established 97 Super Registration Area Centres and 105 Registration Area Centres across the state, which will be activated before election day. Oketola emphasized that the attack would not distract INEC from conducting a free, fair, and credible election.
