Osun West Monarchs Urge Peace Ahead of Governorship Election

On August 15, 2026, traditional rulers from the Osun West Senatorial District, including the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdurosheed Akanbi, gathered to pray for President Bola Tinubu and commend former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for the approval of the long-awaited Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan and Osogbo-Akoda-Gbongan road projects. The monarchs urged political actors in Osun State to avoid thuggery and violence as the governorship election approaches.

Oba Akanbi stressed that no political position is worth the life of any citizen, warning of spiritual consequences for those who engage in electoral violence. He expressed confidence in Tinubu's leadership and his potential for a second term, citing improvements in Nigeria's creditworthiness.

Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, the APC senatorial candidate, emphasized the significance of the event, noting the road project had been neglected for over 15 years and was finally awarded under Oyetola’s administration.
