Tinubu Urges INEC for Credible Osun Election on August 15

President Bola Tinubu has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to guarantee a peaceful, transparent, and credible governorship election in Osun State, set for August 15, 2026. In a statement from his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu urged INEC to maintain the integrity of the electoral process and conduct the election in an orderly, free, and fair manner.

He described the upcoming election as an opportunity for INEC to demonstrate its preparedness for the 2027 general elections. Tinubu instructed the Inspector-General of Police and heads of security agencies to ensure adequate protection for voters and electoral officials, preventing any disruptions.

He emphasized the need for voters to feel safe exercising their civic duties and warned against actions that could undermine the election's peaceful conduct. The election will feature 15 candidates, including incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, APC candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, and ADC candidate Najeem Salaam.
