Civil Society Commends Peaceful Osun Governorship Election

The Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room commended the peaceful conduct of the Osun State governorship election held on Saturday, despite a charged atmosphere prior to the poll. Co-Convener Celestine Odo reported that voters turned out early, demonstrating commitment to their civic rights.

The coalition observed that voting commenced on time in 87 percent of polling units. However, it raised concerns about congestion and delays at certain polling units, particularly in Ila-Orangun, where one BVAS device was available for over 1,100 registered voters.

Additionally, ink pads failed to print properly due to ink shortages in Ilesa West Local Government Area. The Situation Room also expressed concerns over reports of vote buying and urged political actors to respect voters' independence.

While commending polling officials for their professionalism, it emphasized the importance of transparent counting and result declaration processes. The coalition called for any disputes over results to be addressed through legal channels rather than violence.
