Civil Society Urges Lessons from Osun Election for 2027

The Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room called on stakeholders to build on the positive lessons from the Osun State Governorship Election conducted on August 15, 2026. The Situation Room, a coalition of Civil Society Organizations, deployed observers across all 30 Local Government Areas of Osun State.

Their final statement, signed by Y.Z Ya’u, Mma Odi, and Celestine Odo, emphasized the importance of moving towards credible, transparent, and accountable elections. They commended the citizens of Osun State for their participation and the peaceful conduct of the election.

The Situation Room also urged the Governor-elect, political parties, and citizens to use the post-election period to enhance democratic accountability and governance. They reported that over 300 accredited observers were deployed, and the election was observed through the Situation Room Election Accountability Tracker (SEAT) application.

The Situation Room issued preliminary and interim statements based on reports from observers, highlighting the largely peaceful voting process.
