Adeleke Wins Historic Second Term as Osun Governor

Ademola Adeleke has made history by securing a second term as the governor of Osun, becoming only the third elected governor to achieve this since the return to democratic rule in 1999. Contesting the governorship election on the platform of the Accord Party after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adeleke defeated Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with 511,067 votes to 444,815, winning by a margin of 66,252 votes and carrying 19 of the state's 30 local government areas.

Adeleke's victory is attributed to several factors, including the advantage of incumbency, a strong grassroots structure, and the political influence of the Adeleke family. His decision to switch to the Accord Party did not hinder his support base, as the absence of a PDP candidate allowed him to retain much of his previous political backing.

Additionally, the opposition failed to consolidate their votes behind a single challenger, further aiding Adeleke's campaign.
