SERAP Calls for Probe into 2026 Osun Election Irregularities

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate allegations of vote-buying, financial inducement, and violence linked to the 2026 Osun State governorship election. This call followed the declaration of Ademola Adeleke as the winner by the State Returning Officer, Prof Joshua Ogunwole, at approximately 7:24 am on Sunday, where Adeleke secured 511,067 votes against Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who garnered 444,815 votes.

SERAP's petition, dated August 16, 2026, emphasized the need for a coordinated investigation into reported electoral offences, including voter intimidation and misuse of public resources. The organization also requested the preservation of evidence such as banking records and CCTV footage to ensure the election's legitimacy and credibility.
