Abia State Unveils Plans for New Railway Project

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has reaffirmed the state's commitment to modern transportation and urban renewal through the proposed railway project in Umuahia. During a press briefing following a state executive council meeting, Okei Kanu, the head of the state's information department, disclosed that discussions with the Nigerian Railway Corporation have reached an advanced stage for constructing a new train station near the Umuahia Central Bus Terminal.

This facility is designed to feature a modern urban railway corridor that integrates commercial and retail activities. The project also includes plans for access road development and improvements to connectivity within the area.

Kanu noted that arrangements for relocating traders from Isi Gate to Afara Market have been concluded, with compensation for affected landowners. The new Central Bus Terminal is nearing completion, and it will support the Abia Green Shuttle Bus scheme, which will enhance public transport efficiency in Umuahia.

Additionally, several projects in the Greater Ohafia Development Authority await inauguration, including road projects and a new daily market.
