Police Rescue 13 Kidnapping Victims in Otukpo Operation

On April 15, 2026, the Nigeria Police Force conducted a coordinated operation in Otukpo, Benue State, leading to the rescue of 13 kidnapping victims, including eight students who were traveling for examinations. The operation was based on credible intelligence and targeted the Amla Forest Corridor, an area believed to harbor kidnappers.

DCP Anthony Placid reported that the rescued individuals underwent medical assessment and were in stable condition, with arrangements underway for their safe reunion with family members. During the operation, seven suspects were arrested, three of whom were confirmed to be members of the kidnapping syndicate.

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, praised the professionalism and courage of the officers involved and directed intensified security operations in Otukpo to prevent future occurrences. He also reiterated the commitment of the police leadership to protect lives and property nationwide and urged citizens to provide credible information to support security efforts.

The ongoing reforms within the police force include the establishment of a restructuring monitor unit to enhance operational efficiency and accountability.
