Cultural Debate Erupts Over Prince Ponnle's Funeral Plans

The funeral plans for the late Prince Miccom Ponnle, who passed away at the age of 85, have ignited a cultural debate in Ada, Osun State. Jacob Ogunley Oladapo authored an open letter expressing concerns about the burial arrangements, which he argues may violate established Yoruba royal burial traditions.

He highlighted two main issues: the choice of burial venue and the involvement of the late prince's wife, Princess Titilayo Ponnle. Ogunley contended that the burial should not take place at her private residence in Osogbo, as it does not qualify as a royal venue, thus diminishing the dignity of the deceased.

Additionally, he questioned the family's decision to hold the funeral at a commercial grammar school instead of the First Baptist Church Ada, which has historical significance to the Ponnle family. Ogunley urged the family to respect Yoruba customs and traditions, appealing to the community and family elders to ensure that the burial rites honor the late prince's legacy.
