Ondo Youths Protest Against Alleged Regent Imposition

On November 2025, the community of Omifon Town in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State witnessed a significant protest led by local youths against the alleged imposition of a regent. The protest, which drew hundreds from various communities, was organized to express dissatisfaction with the selection process for a new regent following the passing of the previous monarch, Alhaji Yusuf Adesina.

Protest spokesperson Kolawole Ademusuru stated that certain individuals were misleading the community and attempting to create chaos by distorting traditional customs. The youths carried placards and sang solidarity songs, demanding that the Ondo State Governor, Mr.

Lucky Aiyedatiwa, intervene to uphold traditional succession procedures. The local government chairman, Mr.

Taiwo Adegoroye, urged the youths to remain calm and assured them that no one would be allowed to parade as regent without proper selection. He warned that any unlawful attempts to appoint a regent would lead to arrests.
