Akwa Ibom Monarch Seeks N50m Over Corpse Dumping Incident

Eteidung Gordon Etukeren, a traditional ruler in Ikot Obong Village, Akwa Ibom State, is seeking N50 million in damages after the corpse of Stephen Iboro was reportedly dumped at his palace without permission. This incident occurred on Saturday, March 7, amidst a dispute between the Iboro family and the Udobong family regarding burial rights.

The Udobong family insisted on burying the deceased on land belonging to the Etukeren family, which led to a court injunction obtained by the Etukeren family to prevent the burial. The court's injunction was served on the Udobong family, but they allegedly threatened to bring the corpse to the palace, which they ultimately did.

The situation has caused psychological trauma and health challenges for the Etukeren family due to the stench from the corpse. The dispute has escalated to involve the police, who were asked to enforce the court order.
