Over 100 Residents Captive as Sokoto LG Chair Raises Alarm

Sadiq Achida, the chairman of a local government area in Sokoto, has raised alarms over the captivity of over 100 residents due to rampant banditry. He reported that attacks occur almost daily, causing significant psychological trauma among the community.

Achida highlighted the urgent need for security interventions, including the establishment of a military base in Achida and the creation of additional police outposts to enhance safety. He commended Governor Ahmadu Aliyu for efforts to improve security but emphasized that more resources are needed.

The Sokoto State Police Command, led by Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, is aware of the situation and is intensifying efforts to restore normalcy. Recent attacks have resulted in casualties, including the abduction of women and children.

Achida noted that the community has formed a vigilante group to assist security agencies, but the persistent violence, particularly in Wurno, remains a significant concern.
