Sokoto LG Chairman Calls for Urgent Action Against Banditry

The chairman of a local government area in Sokoto, Alh. Abbah Isa Sadiq Achida, highlighted the persistent fear of bandit attacks plaguing local communities during an interview on Tuesday.

He noted that violent incidents occur almost daily, with residents living in a state of anxiety. On the same day, it was reported that bandits attacked Tulutu Village in Birjigo Ward, resulting in the shooting of a young man and the abduction of three others, who are currently receiving treatment at a general hospital.

Additionally, a commercial motorcyclist, known as a "kabu kabu" operator, was kidnapped in Kwanan Keta. Security forces managed to rescue some victims, but the situation remains dire, with people unable to sleep peacefully.

Achida called for urgent government intervention to restore peace. He also mentioned that neighboring Wurno Local Government Area has faced similar issues, with reports of over 100 kidnappings in recent attacks.

Security analyst Basharu Altin Guyawa indicated that the bandits often operate from Zamfara State, making it difficult for local communities to defend themselves.
