Over 11,000 Apply to Sail on Nigerian Navy Warship

The Nigerian Navy has reported that over 11,000 people applied for the chance to sail on a Navy warship, as disclosed by Captain Abi Folorunso, the Director of Naval Information. This overwhelming response was shared via a post on the Navy's former Twitter handle on Friday.

Folorunso expressed surprise at the turnout, noting that the number of applicants far exceeded expectations. However, he pointed out that accommodating 11,000 individuals is not feasible due to the limited space on the vessel.

The Navy plans to release the list of successful applicants between May 1 and May 3, 2026. Applicants are advised to check the Nigerian Navy's social media platforms for updates.

This initiative, part of the Navy's annual celebration, aims to provide the public with rare access to naval platforms and promote transparency while strengthening civil-military relations. The application process was opened online in early April, and the program includes safety protocols due to the sensitive nature of naval operations.
