Over 200 Academics Depart KASU Over Poor Conditions

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kaduna State University (KASU) Chapter, reported that over 200 professors and academic staff have departed from the university due to inadequate conditions of service and the failure to implement the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU Agreement. ASUU-KASU chairman Abubakar Abdullahi announced a two-week ultimatum for university authorities to begin full implementation of the agreement, warning that non-compliance could result in a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike.

The agreement, which aims to enhance conditions of service for academic staff, was supposed to take effect in January 2026, but KASU has yet to initiate its implementation. Abdullahi noted that while most federal and several state universities have either implemented the agreement or set timelines for it, KASU remains behind, leading to its academic staff being among the lowest-paid in Nigeria.

The union's Congress resolved to declare an industrial dispute on August 12, 2026, following a National Executive Council meeting on August 8-9, 2026.
