Ekiti Governor Celebrates Football Tournament Success

The annual Professor Akin Oyebode Football Tournament, which serves as a grassroots talent pipeline, concluded at Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ekiti State. Governor Biodun Oyebanji described the tournament as a complement to government efforts in sports development.

The final match saw Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government emerge as champions after a 5-4 victory in a penalty shootout against Ado Local Government, following a 3-3 draw in regular time. In the female category, Ado Local Government triumphed over Oy Local Government, while Irepodun/Ifelodun secured third place in the male category by defeating Gbonyin/Aiyekir 3-2.

The tournament, which has grown significantly since its inception, aims to reward excellence and motivate young talent. Jimoh Kudirat, a standout performer, emphasized the importance of pursuing professional football careers.

Governor Oyebanji reaffirmed the commitment to building infrastructure and supporting youth initiatives as part of Ekiti State's six-point agenda.
