Oyebanji Re-elected as Ekiti Governor in 2026 Elections

Biodun Oyebanji was re-elected as the governor of Ekiti State during the governorship election held on June 20, 2026. The victory was characterized by a significant endorsement of his first-term performance, as described by the chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

In a statement made available in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, APC chairman Cornelius Ojelabi commended the people of Ekiti for their choice to remain with the progressive fold, emphasizing that Oyebanji's leadership qualities had earned him the trust and confidence of the electorate. Oyebanji won the election by defeating his opponents, securing votes from 177 wards across 16 local government areas, with approximately 85 percent of the votes cast in his favor.

This victory marked a significant achievement, as it broke the historical jinx of not having two consecutive terms for a governor in Ekiti State.
