Edo Government Addresses Oyegun Residence Attack Incident

Kassim Afegbua, the Edo State Commissioner for Information, addressed the recent attack on the residence of former Edo State Governor John Odigie Oyegun, stating that it is a matter of internal conflict within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) rather than involving the All Progressives Congress (APC). This incident followed a political meeting where ADC members allegedly denied access to the premises, leading to protests outside.

Afegbua noted that the governor, Godwin Okpebholo, acted promptly upon hearing gunfire near Oyegun's residence, directing the police to investigate the situation. Reports indicated that pellet gunfire occurred within the governor's house compound, prompting a swift security response.

Afegbua criticized former presidential candidate Peter Obi for drawing premature conclusions about the incident without acknowledging the internal tensions within the ADC. He emphasized that the state government will not tolerate political violence and assured thorough investigations into the attack.
