Teacher Killed in Oyo State School Attack, Burial Today

Adegboy, a 49-year-old teacher, was killed during a coordinated attack on Baptist Nursery Primary School and Yawota Community Grammar School in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State, on Friday, May 19, 2026. He will be laid to rest today, May 22, 2026, in Ogbomoso.

The attack occurred around 9:30 AM, leading to the abduction of several students and teachers. The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, visited the scene on Saturday and deployed a detective force from the headquarters in Abuja to collaborate with a joint security team to intensify efforts to secure the release of the abducted individuals.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed that seven students and 18 children, along with seven teachers from the first Baptist Primary Nursery School, were kidnapped during the incident. The attack has caused palpable fear among residents, leading parents to rush children home and schools to shut down.
