Oyo APC Aspirant Fatai Buhari Backs Direct Primaries

Fatai Buhari, a governorship aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, declared his support for direct primaries during a meeting at the party's secretariat in Ibadan. He stated that the atmosphere for the primaries should be peaceful, free, fair, and credible.

Buhari, who represents the Oyo North Senatorial District, emphasized that the party must respect the principles of democracy to guarantee a fair selection process. He noted that some aspirants are apprehensive about the primaries due to concerns over competitiveness.

APC's state chairman, Mose Adeyemo, announced that the party is committed to conducting credible direct primaries, with mechanisms already in place to achieve consensus among candidates. Buhari is considered one of the top three aspirants among ten screened for the governorship race.

Other aspirants, including Bayo Adelabu and Sharafadeen Alli, expressed differing views on the consensus candidate approach, with Adelabu urging all aspirants to present themselves for the primaries.
