Oyo Assembly Approves Makinde's Annual Vacation Request

On Thursday, August 10, 2026, the Oyo State House of Assembly approved Governor Seyi Makinde's request to proceed on his annual vacation. The approval allows Deputy Governor Adebayo Lawal to assume power during Makinde's absence, in accordance with constitutional provisions requiring notification to the legislature when a governor is away.

The governor's formal correspondence was presented to the House by Deputy Speaker Hon. Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided over the plenary session in the absence of Speaker Adebo Ogundoyi.

In his letter, Makinde indicated that he would officially resume duties on September 14, 2026. The lawmakers unanimously granted the request, expressing confidence in the continuity of governance under Deputy Governor Lawal.
