Oyo Governor Makinde Acknowledges Benefit from Bola Ige's Free Education Program

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde shared during the 50th-anniversary celebration of Oyo State that he was a beneficiary of the free education program introduced by late Chief Bola Ige. The event marked the creation of Oyo State on February 3, 1976, during the military regime of late Murtala Muhammad.

Makinde recalled not paying school fees during his secondary school years due to Ige's free education program. He emphasized the impact of the program, mentioning how it provided students with everything they needed for school, including books, chairs, and tables.

Makinde highlighted the significance of canceling tuition fees for primary and secondary schools, stating that it gave back to society. He expressed gratitude for his uncle, Bola Ige, for introducing the free education program in Oyo State, emphasizing the importance of education in empowering the people of Oyo State.
