Oyo State Launches Public Toilet Project to Combat Open Defecation

The Oyo State government has initiated a public toilet project at Ojoo Market in Ibadan to address the issue of open defecation. The campaign was flagged off on Saturday by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, represented by Engr Ademola Aderinto.

This project is part of the state government's ongoing efforts to enhance sanitation and promote public health, aligning with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) agenda to eliminate open defecation by 2031. Aderinto emphasized the importance of public toilet facilities in business locations as a strategic measure to protect the environment and public health.

He urged traders, residents, and visitors at Ojoo Market to utilize the facilities properly and cooperate with the government's efforts to maintain good sanitation practices throughout the state. The project will be managed by Mr. Abdulateef Abdulganiyu, who will ensure that the facilities provide hygienic alternatives to unhealthy sanitation practices.
