Oyo State Cracks Down on Street Trading in Ibadan

The Oyo State Government has intensified its crackdown on street trading and the illegal occupation of public spaces in Ibadan, specifically targeting Gate, Bodija, and Ojoo markets. This enforcement exercise was executed by the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) in collaboration with security operatives.

The operation was deemed necessary due to ongoing violations, where traders continued to sell goods on roads, walkways, drainage channels, and road setbacks, despite the availability of government-provided market facilities. OYRLEA stated that such activities hinder the free movement of motorists and pedestrians.

During the enforcement, a significant quantity of both perishable and non-perishable goods was impounded. The authority clarified that the enforcement was not aimed at legitimate business owners but was intended to ensure compliance with the law.

OYRLEA urged traders to utilize designated market spaces and warned that the enforcement would continue until compliance with Oyo State laws was achieved.
