Oyo State Replaces Stolen Manhole Covers in Ibadan

The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) has commenced a project to replace stolen metal manhole covers with reinforced concrete alternatives in Ibadan, starting on Tuesday at Apata. This initiative aims to reduce road accidents and protect motorists, pedestrians, and other road users from hazards associated with uncovered manholes, particularly during rainfall and at night.

Major Adesagba Adekoya (rtd.), Chairman of OYRTMA, stated that the decision to use concrete instead of metal covers is intended to provide a long-term solution and deter vandalism. He emphasized the dangers posed by uncovered manholes and the agency's commitment to ensuring public safety.

Adekoya condemned the vandalism of public infrastructure and urged residents to report hazards. The Oyo Police Force, represented by ASP Okphor Kingsley, commended the initiative, while Mr Oluwadamilare Ale from the Okada Riders Association expressed relief for residents and commercial motorcyclists benefiting from the intervention.
