Oyo State Government Defends Stadium Renovation and Streetlights

The Oyo State Government, through Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Special Adviser on Media, dismissed criticisms from Senator Sharafadeen Alli regarding the use of generators for streetlights and the renovation of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex. Olanrewaju described Alli's comments as politically motivated and an attempt to distort the administration's achievements.

He emphasized that the use of generators was due to insufficient electricity supply from the APC-led Federal Government. The government has initiated a solar power project, upgrading a 5MW solar plant to 12MW.

Regarding the Lekan Salami Stadium, Olanrewaju noted that it has hosted international matches, including a February 2026 game between the Falconets and Senegal, and that further upgrades were being made to meet international standards. He defended Governor Seyi Makinde's engineering credentials, highlighting his recognition as a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, showcasing his extensive professional experience.
