Oyo State and ICMPD Launch €2.4M Youth Empowerment Project

The Oyo State Government, in collaboration with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), has initiated a €2.4 million Youth Empowerment and Reintegration Project (YERP) to empower approximately 700 youths through agricultural initiatives. Funded by the Government of Denmark, this project targets young individuals aged 18 to 35, especially those in rural areas and returnee migrants in the South-West region.
The project was officially launched on Friday during the signing of the project agreement in Ibadan. Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, the Oyo State Commissioner for Agriculture, stated that the initiative aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s agricultural development agenda, aiming to tackle youth unemployment, support returnee migrants, and stimulate rural economic development.
The project will utilize 1,766 hectares of farmland in Ilero and an additional 50 hectares in Aawe, providing beneficiaries with training in climate-smart agriculture, market linkages, and livelihood assistance.
