Oyo State Launches Climate-Health Response Group

The Oyo State Government inaugurated a Technical Working Group (TWG) on Climate-Health Response in Ibadan, led by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi. She identified climate change as a significant public health challenge affecting residents through heat-related illnesses, flooding, drought, and other health emergencies.

The TWG's role includes strengthening the health sector's capacity to anticipate and respond to climate-related health risks and integrating climate considerations into health policies and service delivery. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr Akintunde Ayinde, represented by Dr Idris Fasasi, emphasized the importance of proactive prevention and resilience against climate-related emergencies.

Key responsibilities of the TWG include identifying climate-related health risks, enhancing disease surveillance, and mobilizing sustainable financing. The inauguration reflects the commitment of the Oyo State Government to inter-sectoral collaboration and building a resilient health system.
