Oyo State Launches Climate Action Plan 2026-2040

The Oyo State Government has launched the Oyo State Climate Action Plan (OYCAP) for the period 2026-2040, as announced by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Ademola Aderinto. The publication aims to create opportunities for partnerships aligned with the state’s climate goals.

OYCAP offers a science-based roadmap to tackle climate-related issues such as flooding, heatwaves, drought, environmental pollution, food insecurity, and health implications. It aligns Oyo State’s climate actions with global frameworks, including the Paris Agreement and Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), enhancing the state's eligibility for climate funding.

The plan serves as a guide for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in implementing climate-related projects across various sectors. It also outlines strategies for reducing climate risks and presents economic opportunities through green jobs and investments in areas like waste-to-energy and renewable energy.

Aderinto urged local and international partners to leverage OYCAP for sustainable development initiatives in Oyo State.
